Shehbaz Sharif Greenlights Digital Overhaul of FBR with Real-Time Monitoring System

In a major step towards modernizing Pakistan’s tax administration, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the formation of a state-of-the-art digital ecosystem for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The Prime Minister, chairing a review meeting on FBR reforms, directed officials to hire globally recognized digital experts to ensure the system meets international standards.

The new digital ecosystem will centralize all FBR data, enabling real-time tracking of the entire value chain—from raw material imports and production to manufacturing and the final sale to consumers.

Senior ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Bilal Azhar Kayani, along with the FBR Chairman and economic experts, were present at the meeting where detailed progress reports were shared.

Shehbaz Sharif said the new platform must go beyond basic digitization, transforming FBR into a data-driven institution that can improve tax collection, reduce corruption, and eliminate loopholes in the revenue system.

“By digitizing and integrating all tax-related data, we can strengthen economic decision-making and broaden the tax net while reducing the burden on common citizens,” he stated.

The Prime Minister reiterated that expanding the tax base and ending the informal economy are essential for reducing tax rates on low- and middle-income segments.

This digital transformation is expected to increase transparency, improve efficiency in revenue collection, and support long-term economic growth by building a fairer taxation system.
