In its latest move to improve user convenience, WhatsApp is adding a built-in document scanner to its platform. The feature, now undergoing beta testing on Android version 2.25.19.21, lets users scan documents straight from the app, without relying on separate scanning software.
Integrated into the document-sharing section, the new “Scan document” option opens the phone’s camera, providing a live preview that assists in positioning the document for a clear, accurate capture. WhatsApp’s scanner offers two modes: manual, where users decide when to capture the image, and automatic, where the app detects document edges and captures the image on its own.
Whether opting for manual precision or automatic speed, users can expect the app to process and convert the scan into a PDF file immediately. This process is handled entirely on the device, with Android’s native APIs ensuring secure and efficient performance. The file remains saved locally until it is shared through WhatsApp.
This enhancement, designed to make document sharing faster and more seamless, will reach more users in the near future as WhatsApp expands the rollout.
