Punjab schools not closing till August 31 — education department calls viral notice fake

A fake notification suggesting that all Punjab schools will remain closed until August 31 has been debunked by the Punjab School Education Department, which confirmed that no such decision has been taken.

The false notice, which spread widely on social media, cited extreme weather as the reason for the alleged extension of summer vacations across both public and private schools. However, the department took swift action to clarify the matter, posting the forged document with a bold “FAKE” stamp on its verified Facebook page.

In a public statement, the department warned citizens not to trust or circulate unauthenticated information, stating clearly that no decision has yet been made regarding an extension of summer holidays.

At the same time, uncertainty remains over whether schools will reopen on the previously announced date of August 15. A proposal to extend the holidays until August 31 is reportedly under consideration due to ongoing weather concerns, according to departmental sources quoted by a private news outlet.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has acknowledged the situation, stating that consultations are still in progress and a final decision will be made soon based on the prevailing heat and humidity.

Despite some relief from recent sporadic rain, many areas of Punjab are still grappling with intense summer conditions, which may impact the final call on school reopening.
