Punjab Educational Boards Alter Method of Conducting Matriculation Exams

Educational boards in Punjab have taken a significant initiative to enhance students’ English proficiency and align educational standards with global norms.

As per the details, all educational boards across the province will conduct matriculation exams in English for both science and arts streams, starting from 2025.

Under this policy, the gradual elimination of Urdu from question papers will ensure a consistent language medium across all subjects. Moreover, commencing in 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be conducted in English.

While formal approval for this policy is still pending, educational authorities are optimistic about its approval during the upcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.

However, Rana Liaqat Ali, the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, has voiced concerns regarding potential challenges associated with the language transition. He emphasized the importance of providing teachers with training to facilitate a smooth transition and minimizing potential student failure rates due to language barriers.
