Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has decided to continue the remittance incentive program for overseas Pakistanis, acknowledging their critical role in driving economic stability.
The Prime Minister directed the Finance Ministry to prioritize the release of funds for the Workers’ Remittances Incentive Scheme, ensuring overseas Pakistanis receive timely benefits.
“Overseas Pakistanis are a valuable national asset. Their hard-earned income sent home supports our economy and contributes to the development of Pakistan,” he emphasized.
First Current Account Surplus in 14 Years
During FY2025, remittances from overseas workers reached an all-time high of $38.3 billion, helping Pakistan achieve a current account surplus for the first time in over a decade.
These inflows not only covered the country’s import payments but also boosted foreign exchange reserves, providing much-needed economic relief.
Improving the Remittance Process
PM Shehbaz Sharif assured that the government is committed to removing obstacles faced by overseas workers and streamlining remittance channels.
“We are making the remittance system more efficient and transparent so hardworking Pakistanis abroad can easily support their families and homeland,” he said.
The scheme’s continuation is seen as a strategic move to further encourage remittances, which remain one of Pakistan’s largest sources of foreign currency inflows.
