Convert your petrol bike to electric and get Rs. 100,000 under Punjab’s green rewards scheme

LAHORE: As part of a bold new climate initiative, the Punjab government will pay Rs. 100,000 to individuals who convert their petrol motorcycles into electric vehicles, announced Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. The initiative is part of the Green Credit Program, which rewards citizens for taking steps that reduce environmental pollution.

Besides e-bike conversions, the program allows people to earn green credits for planting trees and switching to LED lighting, creating multiple avenues for environmental impact and financial benefit.

Registrations and applications can be made online through the official program portal.

The minister also launched several tree plantation measures under the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign. These include:

  • A free sapling delivery service for Lahore residents via helpline 1399

  • A target to plant 300,000 trees along the Ring Road

  • Implementation of real-time digital tracking of each planted tree using Australian technology

Aurangzeb revealed that the government has recovered encroached forest land and is forming a fire control unit equipped with modern tech, supervised by the Bank of Punjab.

In addition, the Punjab administration is intensifying its efforts to combat air pollution and smog in Lahore. Seven air quality monitoring stations are already operational under the Punjab Air Quality System, with more improvements planned.

Calling on public cooperation, the minister stressed the importance of citizen participation to make Punjab greener, cleaner, and more sustainable.
