In a major development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) jointly raided Bahria Town’s Islamabad offices on Monday, escalating their investigation into one of Pakistan’s largest alleged money laundering networks.
Officials said the raid led to the seizure of sensitive records and the arrest of multiple staff members. Preliminary findings suggest Bahria Town, under Malik Riaz and his son Ali Riaz, was involved in extensive hawala-hundi transactions and money laundering operations.
Investigators have identified at least three large-scale money laundering cases:
-
Rs1.58 trillion (2016–Jan 2025)
-
Rs1 billion (2015–Mar 2025)
-
Rs24 billion (2005–2015)
The FIA noted that the newly recovered evidence reinforces cases already under NAB review, prompting the bureau to reopen all pending Bahria Town files.
In addition, investigators revealed massive benami properties allegedly connected to Bahria Town, with valuations running into the hundreds of billions of rupees.
Both agencies have now moved into an aggressive phase of the probe, with daily legal proceedings expected to commence from next week. Officials assured that all illegal financial activities linked to the case will be pursued relentlessly until accountability is achieved.
