Heavy vehicles banned from entering Islamabad to reduce traffic and improve safety

ISLAMABAD — The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has imposed a citywide ban on the entry of heavy vehicles, overloaded trucks, and loader rickshaws, as part of its latest strategy to reduce traffic jams and road accidents.

Announcing the decision on Thursday, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider said the new policy aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent fatal incidents caused by such vehicles.

“We are enforcing a strict policy with no leniency for any kind of traffic violations,” said the CTO.

To enforce the ban, extra traffic police officers have been deployed at key checkpoints and intersections. Those found violating the order will face heavy fines, and in some cases, their vehicles will be impounded and legal action will be initiated.

The ITP has also increased its efforts against common traffic issues including:

  • Over-speeding

  • Running red lights

  • Wrong-lane driving

  • Illegal parking

In a significant step, the ITP is expanding drone surveillance to monitor traffic violations across the capital and take swift enforcement action.

The crackdown aims to transform Islamabad into a safer and more efficient city for all commuters.
