The profession that becomes the epicenter of invaluable knowledge and wisdom, sacred and gentle affection, is teaching. A teacher is not just a teacher; they are also a student’s constant, friendly guardian. There is no telling how many thousands of students’ lives have been transformed by the profound lectures, inspiring conversations, and crucial guidance of countless teachers across the globe.
In this circumstance, in order to ensure the rights and welfare of this respected teaching community, World Teachers’ Day has been observed every year on October 5th since 1994. This year, World Teachers’ Day was celebrated again on Monday. On this occasion, it’s time to hear what university students across Bangladesh think about their teachers.
Everyone Has Unforgettable Memories of Teachers
Kh. Riasat Islam Omio, currently studying in the 2022–23 academic session in the Marketing Department at Rajshahi University, said:
“We all have memorable stories and unforgettable memories of teachers in our lives. Even before I enrolled in kindergarten, my first teacher was my mother. It was through her hands that I became familiar with the alphabet. The stories, rhymes, and tender, affectionate lessons I heard from her are still deeply etched in my heart today.”
Omio added, “Not just my mother, but I am also deeply grateful to all those who have directly or indirectly shaped my academic life along the way. On this special occasion of World Teachers’ Day, I extend my heartfelt respect and best wishes to all the teachers whose knowledge, inspiration, and love have illuminated our lives.”
Teachers: Promoters of Values and Humanity Alongside Knowledge
Tamanna Shirin, a student of the 2022–23 academic session in the Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Khulna University, said:
“Teachers are the most enlightened people in society. They not only impart knowledge to us in the classroom but also play a crucial role in promoting the beneficial values and lessons of humanity in our lives.”
Shirin asserted that a good teacher can change not just a student’s academic life but their entire life. In her opinion, “Teachers’ inspiration gives us courage, and we gain self-belief. Their hard work and dedication are the foundation of our illuminated future.” She expressed her gratitude and respect to every teacher on World Teachers’ Day.
Teachers Are the Backbone of Education
Mehedi Hasan, a student of the 2020–21 academic session in the Economics Department at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, believes that a teacher should be considered the guide of a nation. This is because if education is the backbone of a nation, then teachers are the backbone of education.
Mehedi compared teachers to luminous candles, saying, “Just as a bright candle burns itself to illuminate others, a teacher continuously dedicates themselves to acquiring knowledge. They then share that hard-earned knowledge with everyone to enlighten the nation.”
He also offered his respect and love to all his revered teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
Teachers Teach Us to Think, Question, and Be Human
Jahir Rayhan, another student at Begum Rokeya University, studying in the Public Administration Department in the 2021–22 academic session, said:
“Teaching is not just a profession. It is a responsibility, a commitment, a promise. The person who acts as a guide from darkness to light is the teacher.”
He continued, “Just as we learn to walk by first placing our feet on the ground in childhood, those who teach us to think, to question, and most importantly, to be human are our teachers.” He also mentioned that teachers make the greatest sacrifices for students’ professional lives and beautiful futures.
Teachers Can Change the World If They Want To
Nishat Tasnim Zeba, a student of the 2022–23 academic session in the Population Sciences Department at Dhaka University, said while talking about teachers:
“Not all teachers are the same. Some are somewhat like a mental trauma, while others are a beacon of inspiration. I’ve had this experience, especially from school, as I spent eight years there.”
She added, “Even so, teachers can bring about change in our world if they remain steadfast in morality and professionalism and guide us based on integrity.”
Teachers Create the Eyes Through Which We See the World
Kaniz Fadila, a student of the 2023–24 academic session in the Development Studies Department at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), said:
