Tree Plantation Essential in Fight Against Climate Change, Says UAF Vice Chancellor

Jaranwala: Climate change presents severe risks to human health, food security, and the environment, but these threats can be mitigated through robust public involvement in tree planting and anti-pollution initiatives, according to Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).

Addressing attendees at a tree-planting event held at the Student Facilitation Center, UAF, Dr. Khan emphasized the detrimental effects of factory emissions, vehicle exhaust, and other pollutants on the environment.

“We are devastating the planet with our own hands,” he stated, underscoring the urgent need for conscious environmental protection efforts.

Dr. Khan highlighted UAF’s reputation as one of the greenest universities worldwide, thanks to its verdant campus, which maintains temperatures two to three degrees lower than those in the surrounding city.

He also warned of the serious consequences of climate change, including glacier melting, intensified flooding, and droughts.

Dr. Khan called on students and the community to engage actively in the planting campaign to promote a healthier environment.

The event was attended by Principal Officer Estate Management Dr. Nadeem Akbar, Incharge Gardening Wing Dr. Adnan Younus, and other notable figures.
