Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, the PM’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, has emphasized the urgent need for intensified environmental activism in Pakistan to address the ongoing climate crisis. Her call to action came during a meeting with Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, the Country Representative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), held today at her office.
Both parties agreed to collaborate on initiatives related to biodiversity and climate change. Alam highlighted the importance of scaling up the Green Pakistan Program and tackling the increasing challenge of forest fires. During the meeting, Cheema presented the IUCN’s report on the Green Pakistan Program to Alam, showcasing the progress and areas needing further attention.
“The time for enforcing robust environmental activism is now,” Alam stated, underlining the critical need for concerted efforts to protect Pakistan’s natural resources and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
