Romania Seeks Stronger Ties with Pakistan as Diplomatic Relations Mark 60 Years

Islamabad: Romania’s Ambassador-designate to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, emphasized Romania’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Pakistan, a key partner in South Asia. Speaking at a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating Romania’s 106th National Day on Wednesday, he highlighted the shared dedication of both nations to enhancing cooperation within the EU-Pakistan framework and on multilateral platforms like the United Nations.

Dr. Stoenescu noted that 2024 marks 60 years of diplomatic ties between Romania and Pakistan, a milestone reflecting their strong partnership based on cooperation and mutual respect. He expressed optimism about exploring new avenues to deepen relations across various fields.

Highlighting Romania’s historical achievements, the Ambassador-designate spoke of the significance of the Great Union of December 1, 1918, an event that laid the foundation for Romania’s unity, vision, and national identity. He stated that this historic milestone continues to inspire Romania’s commitment to resilience, unity, and global collaboration.

Celebrating 106 years since the Great Union, Dr. Stoenescu remarked that the anniversary is not only a tribute to Romania’s past but also a testament to its enduring dedication to democratic values and international cooperation.

Romania’s foreign policy, he said, is firmly rooted in European and transatlantic democratic principles. As an active NATO member, Romania plays a pivotal role in ensuring European security, particularly along the Black Sea and NATO’s Eastern Flank. The country has also extended steadfast support to Ukraine, aiding its people and contributing to regional stability.

Dr. Stoenescu also underscored Romania’s contributions within the European Union, promoting democratic governance and economic development, further cementing its position as a reliable and proactive global partner.
