Pakistan Consulate in Barcelona holds Kashmir Solidarity Day event, condemns Indian oppression
Barcelona – In observance of August 5, designated as Kashmir Exploitation Day, the Pakistan Consulate in Barcelona organized a solemn ceremony and a powerful photo exhibition to express unwavering solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian-occupied Kashmir.
The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the performance of patriotic songs. A photo exhibition showcasing harrowing visuals from Kashmir highlighted the grave human rights abuses faced by the Kashmiri population.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General of Pakistan in Barcelona, Mr. Murad Ali Wazir, said that August 5, 2019, marked a dark chapter in the history of Kashmir, when India illegally revoked the region’s special constitutional status. He emphasized that the people of Pakistan and its armed forces stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
“Our silence must not be mistaken for weakness,” he stated. “Since May 9, a new Pakistan has emerged—one that stands like a wall of steel against injustice. This is not just the army’s fight—it is a battle for the entire nation.”
The Consul General also called for unity, tolerance, and mutual respect among Pakistanis, especially within overseas communities. He stressed the need to avoid abusive discourse and instead promote peaceful dialogue.
Highlighting the daily tragedies in Kashmir—children being orphaned and women widowed—he condemned the international community’s silence. He urged Spain and the European Union to raise their voice for Kashmir’s human rights just as they have for Palestine.
“We do not want war; we want peace,” he added. “But the people of Kashmir deserve the right to live freely. Let us join voices for both Palestine and Kashmir.”
