New Nawaz Sharif Flyover eases Rawalpindi traffic before official launch

Residents of Rawalpindi are already driving over the newly completed Nawaz Sharif Flyover, a much-anticipated project at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road. Even though the official inauguration by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has been delayed, the flyover was opened early for public use—and commuters are grateful.

Part of a larger Rs. 4.38 billion urban improvement plan, this Rs. 2.3 billion flyover is designed to ease the notorious congestion at one of the city’s busiest intersections. It’s one of several upgrades underway, including two underpasses and a pedestrian corridor along Mall Road, which are still awaiting completion and formal launch.

According to city officials, while the inauguration ceremony was postponed due to logistical reasons, the public demand and urgency of the traffic situation made it necessary to open the flyover ahead of schedule.

Traffic has already begun to flow more smoothly in the area, and local drivers say the improvement is noticeable. Once the remaining parts of the project come online, the city expects to see an even greater reduction in congestion.

This initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader vision to transform urban traffic infrastructure, making commuting safer and more efficient for everyone.
