Compromising Video of Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and Amina Arooj Sparks Police Crackdown on Extortion Gang
Pakistani playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar recently fell victim to a honey-trapping scheme orchestrated by a criminal gang. The gang not only demanded a ransom but also circulated a compromising video of him.
Swift police action led to the arrest of the gang’s alleged mastermind, Hassan Shah, and his accomplice, Rafiq, in Peshawar. Shah was identified as the principal architect of the honey-trapping operation. Both he and Rafiq were part of a larger group of 12 members, including several women, all involved in the extortion scheme. The police have also detained other gang members implicated in this and possibly similar criminal activities.
The incident involving Qamar occurred on July 15th, but the formal police report was not filed until July 21st, indicating a delay that might have complicated the investigation. However, once the case was registered, the police made significant breakthroughs in a short period.
Interrogations of Shah and Rafiq are ongoing as the police aim to unravel the full extent of the gang’s operations and understand their methods and targets. This case highlights the vulnerabilities public figures face and the sophisticated methods criminals use to exploit these vulnerabilities.
