Islamabad is on its way to becoming a smart, cashless city with the mandatory introduction of M-Tags for all vehicles and a digital parking system that will replace manual cash-based parking.
The announcement came after a strategic meeting at CDA Headquarters, chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, alongside senior officials from the ICT administration, Excise Department, and law enforcement agencies.
What Changes Are Coming?
✅ M-Tags compulsory for entry – Any vehicle without an electronic tag will be denied entry to Islamabad.
✅ Smart parking with variable fees – High-traffic areas will have slightly higher parking charges to discourage congestion.
✅ Cashless payments – Citizens can pay via mobile apps, QR codes, or bank cards, ending the hassle of cash payments.
✅ App-based parking reservations – Drivers can reserve parking spots ahead of time using a mobile app.
The CDA plans to digitize other citizen services as well. Soon, residents can pay parking fees, property taxes, and utility bills online or through cashless kiosks.
Why This Matters?
The system will reduce illegal parking, save citizens time, improve traffic flow, and enhance city security. Daily traffic surveys will help fine-tune the plan, while a public awareness drive will make the transition smoother.
“This is not just a parking solution—it’s a leap towards transforming Islamabad into a truly modern, smart city,” said Chairman Randhawa.
