Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) of Islamabad has allocated a dedicated space to the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad for the establishment of an “Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Park” under the Green Legacy Initiative (#GLI) of Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali.
The decision was made during a meeting between H.E. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and Commissioner Islamabad and CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
Key Discussions and Agreements
During the meeting, various topics of mutual interest were discussed, including collaboration on green initiatives, the possibility of granting sister city status to Addis Ababa and Islamabad, and knowledge sharing on urban development.
Exploring Pakistan-Ethiopia Cooperative Ties
H.E. Ambassador Jemal Beker briefed the CDA Chairman on the Green Legacy Initiative, which has seen over 40 billion seedlings of fruits, vegetables, and animal feeds planted across Ethiopia through large-scale public mobilization. He also highlighted the significant urban development in Addis Ababa, especially the riverbank projects and the establishment of green corridors in the city.
Green Legacy Initiative in Pakistan
Ambassador Jemal Beker informed the CDA Chairman about the launch of the Green Legacy Initiative in Islamabad and across Pakistan last year. This initiative aims to mobilize the Pakistani population for tree plantation, a crucial step in addressing climate change. The second round of the Green Legacy is set to launch soon, with participation from government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, religious communities, business leaders, media, youth, and civil society.

CDA’s Commitment
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa expressed his commitment to providing a dedicated space to the Ethiopian Embassy at Margalla Hills National Park for the establishment of the Green Legacy Park. He also appreciated the urban development in Ethiopia and sought knowledge transfer for riverbank projects in Addis Ababa.
Additionally, the CDA Chairman emphasized the importance of establishing a sister city relationship between the capital cities of Ethiopia and Pakistan, Addis Ababa and Islamabad, to foster further cooperation and development.
The creation of the Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Park represents a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and Pakistan, promoting green initiatives, and addressing the global challenge of climate change.
