Ethiopian embassy and Sindh CM office hold Green Legacy dialogue to boost climate cooperation
KARACHI – The Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, in partnership with the Chief Minister’s Office of Sindh, organized the Ethio-Pakistan Green Legacy Dialogue on Saturday to strengthen bilateral cooperation on climate action, land restoration, and sustainable development.
The forum was co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary, and H.E. Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh.
Dr. Adefires Worku Gizaw, Chair of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Technical Committee, shared Ethiopia’s roadmap under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s Green Legacy Initiative. He outlined achievements in afforestation, reforestation, soil and water conservation, food security, and job creation.
From Pakistan’s side, Environment and Climate Change Secretary Zubair Ahmed presented Sindh’s climate policy and government-led green initiatives.
Ambassador Abdula stressed that Ethiopia is spearheading the global climate agenda, not just in Africa but worldwide, to advance green and sustainable development. He warned of the severe impacts of climate change, which threaten lives, livelihoods, and socio-economic progress in developing nations.
He further urged greater cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan under the Green Legacy framework and invited Sindh’s government to attend the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa from September 8–10, 2025.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah welcomed the initiative, praising Ethiopia’s commitment to environmental diplomacy. He confirmed that Sindh will send a delegation to the upcoming climate summit to enhance environmental cooperation and food security efforts between the two nations.
