An Ethiopian Green Legacy Delegation visited the Senate of Pakistan, planting saplings and holding high-level meetings to boost environmental cooperation and bilateral relations.
Led by Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary, H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Senate officials and given a tour of Parliament House, including its historic museum and live session proceedings.
Later, the delegation met Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, accompanied by Senators Sherry Rehman, Irfan ul Haq Siddiqui, Syed Ali Zafar, and Adviser Misbah Khar. The discussions focused on trade, investment, climate action, and regional as well as global developments.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal thanked Chairman Gillani for presiding over the Ethio–Pakistan Green Dialogue hosted by COMSTECH and praised Pakistan’s climate action initiatives. He also expressed condolences for the recent flood-related casualties in Pakistan and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity.
Chairman Gillani appreciated Ethiopia’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for the UN Security Council (2025–26) and stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy. He also called for more exchanges between parliamentary delegations to deepen people-to-people ties.
As a symbolic gesture, Ethiopian delegates, Pakistani senators, and the Chairman Senate planted saplings in the Friendship Garden at Parliament House, launching the “Plant Fraternity” initiative for joint climate cooperation.
