Ethiopian ambassador briefs Turkmenistan foreign minister on peaceful efforts for sea access

H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to Turkmenistan with residence in Islamabad, met with H.E. Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (UNLLDC3) in Awaza.

During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and explored opportunities to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in business, trade, investment, agriculture, aviation, technology, and culture.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal briefed the Turkmen foreign minister on Ethiopia’s peaceful and diplomatic efforts to secure sea access — an existential necessity for its more than 130 million citizens. He emphasized that Ethiopia’s demand aligns with the aspirations of its people and is fully in line with international law.

The ambassador noted that gaining sea access would not only accelerate Ethiopia’s economic growth but also contribute to regional integration, stability, and prosperity.

Minister Meredov acknowledged the importance of sea access for landlocked nations to achieve equitable and sustainable development. He praised Ethiopia’s economic progress and its role in promoting regional cooperation, assuring full support to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties.
