Engr Waseem Nazir Elected as PEC Chairman in 2024 Elections

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) announced the official results of its 2024 elections today, where Engr Waseem Nazir secured the position of PEC Chairman. Engr Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi and a member of the TEP Panel, was elected as Senior Vice Chairman.

According to the election results, Engr Dr. Suhail Aftab Qureshi was elected as Vice Chairman Punjab (TEP Panel), Engr Mukhtiar Ali Shaikh as Vice Chairman Sindh, Engr Dr. Qaisar Ali as Vice Chairman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Engr Mujeeb Ur Rehman Marri (TEP Panel) as Vice Chairman Balochistan.

In Sindh, 12 Governing Body members were elected, with the TEP Panel winning four seats. The successful candidates included Engr Dr. Aneel Kumar, Engr Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi, Engr Syed Abid Hussain Shah, Engr Dr. Khanji Harijan (TEP Panel), Engr Muhammad Yousuf, Engr Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal (TEP Panel), Engr Dr. Pardeep Kumar (TEP Panel), Engr Dr. Zubair Ahmed Shaikh, Engr Wazir Hussain, Engr Dr. Haroon Rasheed, Engr Abdullah Mahesar (TEP Panel), and Engr Dr. Zahid Hussain Khand.

In Balochistan, three Governing Body members were elected, with the TEP Panel securing one seat. The elected members were Engr Ghulam Usman Babai, Engr Syed Bashir Ahmed Agha, and Engr Dr. Faizullah Khan Kakar. In Punjab, 19 Governing Body members were elected, of which the TEP Panel clinched seven seats, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured six Governing Body seats, with two seats going to the TEP Panel. Overall, the TEP Panel won 14 of the 40 Governing Body seats, emerging as the major victorious panel.

In his statement, Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi expressed gratitude to the voters for their support, which led to his election as PEC Senior Vice Chairman. He acknowledged their patience during the delayed election process and emphasized the need for continued cooperation to address PEC issues and fulfill the promises made.

Engr Abdul Jabbar Solangi praised the passion and effort of the voters in striving for a professional PEC that all members could be proud of. He reflected on the friendships formed during the campaign, considering them a significant personal achievement.

Engineer Zainal Abdin Khuhro congratulated the TEP Panel candidates for their success in the PEC elections, criticizing those who made empty promises and expressing hope that the new PEC body would take concrete steps to address the issues facing jobless engineers and those working in the field. He also emphasized the importance of timely approval for the Registration case of the DCET 1995-96 Batch, in accordance with the Federal Ombudsman’s order issued on July 2, 2024.

Khuhro concluded by calling for a revolution within PEC to ensure that the engineering sector could thrive and provide opportunities for jobless engineers to contribute to Pakistan’s development.
