Easypaisa CEO urges secure, innovative approach to boost Pakistan’s cashless economy

Islamabad — Security, trust, and innovation must go hand in hand for Pakistan to achieve its digital financial goals, said Jahanzeb Khan, President and CEO of easypaisa digital bank, during the GSMA Digital Nation Summit in Islamabad on Thursday.

Speaking at a fireside session titled “From Cybersecurity to Digital Payments – Ensuring Trust in a Cashless Future”, Jahanzeb said that as Pakistan moves toward a cashless economy, it is vital to ensure that customers feel secure while enjoying convenient and innovative financial solutions.

“easypaisa is proud to lead Pakistan’s journey towards a cashless, digitally inclusive economy,” he said. “We will keep working with stakeholders and policymakers to build a thriving digital ecosystem, where security and trust are embedded in both the user experience and backend systems.”

The easypaisa chief expressed strong support for the Government and the State Bank of Pakistan’s push toward a Cashless Economy. He called for a collaborative approach that creates an interoperable and inclusive financial system, enabling every Pakistani — particularly the unbanked — to engage in the formal economy.

He also pointed to the company’s Privacy by Design framework, which incorporates data protection from the earliest product development stages. According to Jahanzeb, this approach ensures secure, scalable platforms that make onboarding easy, expand financial access, and enhance inclusion.

The GSMA Digital Nation Summit brought together senior government representatives, mobile network operators, digital innovators, financial experts, and international development partners to discuss strategies for building a robust and secure digital Pakistan.

Easypaisa — serving one in five Pakistani adults, with 31% female users and handling over 2.7 billion transactions in 2024 worth PKR 9.5 trillion (around 9% of Pakistan’s GDP) — continues to be a pioneer in the country’s digital banking sector.
