Artificial Intelligence is rapidly altering Pakistan’s IT industry, with companies cutting back on traditional hiring while seeking professionals skilled in AI integration and multi-tasking, reveals the P@SHA Skills Survey 2025.
Over the past year, around 32,685 technical experts and 1,969 non-technical staff joined the IT workforce. But as AI solutions become more accessible, many functions that once required multiple specialists are now being completed faster and more cheaply with fewer employees.
This shift is forcing companies to prioritize professionals who can combine software development, problem-solving, and AI adoption. Skills in Fullstack JavaScript, Python, and .NET are in particularly high demand, while React Native and Flutter dominate mobile app development roles.
Cloud computing expertise continues to be crucial, with AWS, Azure, DevOps tools, and Kubernetes leading skill requirements. Testing tools such as ISTQB, Selenium, and Cypress remain widely used. Creative roles in Game Development, UI/UX design, and emerging fields like Blockchain and Web3 are also gaining traction.
The report, compiled from 256 IT firms, paints a detailed picture of the shifting employment landscape. PASHA Senior Vice Chairman Muhammad Umair Nizam said Pakistan’s IT sector can only achieve its growth and export targets through continuous upskilling and capacity building. While AI adoption is cutting some jobs, he noted, it also opens new doors for young professionals trained in next-generation technologies.
