Ethiopian Ambassador named ‘Ambassador of Margalla Hills Park’ for promoting green Islamabad
ISLAMABAD — In recognition of his commitment to environmental conservation, Ethiopia’s Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula has been named the “Ambassador of Margalla Hills National Park” by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The honorary title was conferred by CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner H.E. Muhammad Ali Randhawa during a meeting at CDA Headquarters. The meeting highlighted joint efforts to foster green spaces and smart urban development in the federal capital.
During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker shared details of Ethiopia’s corridor development project, a major urban transformation drive spearheaded by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The project centers on infrastructure development, riverside beautification, and large-scale plantations to improve the urban landscape and quality of life.
The Ambassador also suggested initiating a sister city partnership between Islamabad and Addis Ababa, aiming to boost cultural and commercial exchanges between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
In line with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s “Green Legacy Initiative,” the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad is preparing for a tree plantation campaign. Dr. Beker extended an invitation to the CDA Chairman to participate in the campaign to raise awareness on climate change and environmental preservation.
In return, Chairman Randhawa briefed the Ambassador on the CDA’s urban development strategy, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to creating a modern, inclusive, and eco-friendly Islamabad.
He commended Dr. Beker’s active leadership in green campaigns, particularly within Margalla Hills National Park, and expressed interest in learning from Ethiopia’s sustainable urban solutions.
