SIALKOT – In a major step toward women’s empowerment, female teachers in Sialkot will be given free electric bikes to ease their daily travel needs. The initiative is being carried out with the assistance of the local business community and is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s drive to provide safe, reliable, and eco-friendly transportation.
According to Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali, over 650 teachers applied for the scheme before the August 10 deadline. A computerized ballot will be used to select the beneficiaries, ensuring complete transparency.
Applicants were required to be under 35 years of age, with eligibility extended to both permanent and contract teachers. Widows, divorced women, and those acting as sole earners of their households were prioritized.
As a pilot effort, 14 female teachers received e-bikes earlier this month during Independence Day celebrations. Officials believe the scheme will encourage greater female workforce participation while also cutting down on air pollution by promoting clean energy vehicles.
