Free plants, bright lights and art contests mark Independence Day celebrations in Lahore

Lahore — Independence Day celebrations in Lahore are in full swing as the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) launches a free plant distribution drive across the city. The campaign is part of the Marka-e-Haq celebrations and aims to promote both patriotism and environmental awareness.

Free plants are being handed out at Liberty Chowk and Jail Road, while mobile distribution teams and bicycle carts are delivering plants to neighbourhoods citywide. PHA Director General Mansoor Ahmad said the campaign is a call to action for citizens to take part in creating a greener future. “By planting trees, we honour our independence and contribute to a healthier environment,” he noted.

The celebrations go beyond tree planting — Lahore’s streets are glowing with green and white lights, all underpasses are illuminated, and colourful floats featuring national symbols are touring the city.

Adding to the festive mood, a painting competition will be held at the National History Museum to showcase the talent of young artists. The plant distribution will run until Thursday evening, giving residents more time to join the green cause while enjoying the Independence Day spirit.
