Nadra has introduced a comprehensive video guide to help citizens change their names on their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC).
Applicants must first arrange all required documents before visiting a Nadra registration centre. The main document is a computerised birth certificate from the Union Council or Cantonment Board reflecting the updated name.
If this certificate is not available, an affidavit form — C1 for B-Form or C2 for CNIC — may be provided instead. In cases where the name change is due to a change of religion, a Dar-ul-Ifta certificate is mandatory.
At the Nadra office, applicants collect a token, undergo biometric verification, and have their details recorded. This includes fingerprint scanning, photography, and review of a printed form for confirmation.
The approving officer may ask additional questions about the applicant’s family. Nadra emphasises that no form attestation is needed for name amendments.

Executive service: Rs. 2,500 (7 working days)

Urgent service: Rs. 1,500 (15 working days)

Normal service: Rs. 750 (30 working days)
An SMS confirmation will be sent when the new CNIC is ready for collection from the same office where the application was filed.
