In a sign of improving diplomatic and economic relations, US Chargé d’Affaires Elizabeth Horst met Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad on Monday to discuss avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
The finance ministry described the meeting as a meaningful exchange on mutual interests. Aurangzeb thanked the US for its ongoing support for Pakistan’s economic development, particularly in helping stabilize the macroeconomic landscape.
He recalled his recent visit to Washington, D.C., where he met US officials including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. He said those meetings helped build momentum in Pakistan-US relations.
Aurangzeb reaffirmed Pakistan’s intent to strengthen ties with its largest trading partner and expand cooperation in emerging sectors such as IT, agriculture, and minerals. He shared positive developments in economic indicators, investor confidence, and key policy reforms in tax and energy.
The finance minister also outlined Pakistan’s future in global financial markets, mentioning the upcoming issuance of its first Panda bond and new ventures in the Euro and US dollar markets.
Both sides agreed to maintain the pace of engagement and work toward a stronger, more diversified economic partnership.
