The internet’s attention is fixated on PTI’s Barrister Gohar and Sher Afzal Marwat in a Barbie vs. Oppenheimer scenario

Millions of registered Pakistani citizens aged 18 and above participated in the country’s recent general election held on Thursday. However, the electoral process was marked by the suspension of cellular mobile services and unusual delays in polling results, leaving the nation’s return to the electoral process in 2024 embroiled in allegations of rigging and uncertainty.

Amid these unusual circumstances, as is customary, citizens turned to the internet for humor. A candid photograph from a recent press conference featuring PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat has become the latest trending template for hilarious memes.

Marwat, who gained significant attention on the internet in the past week due to his intense speeches to voters, is captured with a serious expression in the picture, while Gohar calmly addresses the press. One user on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) drew parallels between Marwat’s concern and Gohar’s relative ease, likening their attitudes to those of the eldest daughter versus other siblings.

“I don’t know how to explain it, but Sher Afzal Marwat could be cast as the main character of a Netflix show, and I’d actually watch it,” argued another user on X, emphasizing the politician’s inexplicable charm. This sentiment was echoed by another user who suggested, “Hamza Ali Abbasi could play [Marwat] right in a movie.”

According to another viewpoint, Gohar and Marwat embody their “12 am and 1 pm personalities” respectively, reflecting the familiar struggles of night owls begrudgingly navigating through their day.

For those who find nothing remarkable about the two men standing together, internet users juxtaposed separate pictures of the politicians to emphasize their different “vibes.” A brightly lit picture of Gohar, wearing a slight frown against a pink background, earned him the moniker “Barbie” from some, juxtaposed with a dull-colored snapshot of Marwat, dubbed “Oppenheimer,” displaying a stern expression, reminiscent of the viral Barbenheimer meme from 2023.

One post suggested that Gohar’s demeanor is akin to how boys are seen in the company of girls, whereas Marwat’s gruff approach is more fitting when boys hang out with other boys. Others hinted at a “good boy vs. bad boy” analogy, with the PTI chairman being portrayed as the former. “You vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about,” read one post.
