Saudi Arabia provides $121m support for Pakistan’s health and energy sector

Pakistan has secured $121 million in financing from Saudi Arabia to strengthen its healthcare and renewable energy sectors, following the signing of consultancy contracts under the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).

The agreements cover three projects: the King Salman Hospital in Tarlai, Islamabad, and two hydropower ventures — Shounter and Jagran — in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

Funding details show the hospital project will be financed through a $20 million Saudi grant, while the Shounter and Jagran hydropower projects will be supported by concessional loans of $66 million and $35 million respectively.

At the signing event, Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki reaffirmed Riyadh’s long-term commitment to Pakistan, noting that the projects are designed to provide critical services, stimulate economic activity, and improve living standards for the Pakistani people.

The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to support Pakistan’s development priorities, with a strong focus on healthcare access and clean energy generation.
