Power consumers may get Rs1.80/unit relief as NEPRA concludes tariff hearing

Electricity consumers in Pakistan may soon see a much-needed drop in their monthly bills, as NEPRA on Monday concluded a public hearing on the Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTA) for the fourth quarter of the 2024–25 fiscal year.

During the session, power distribution companies (DISCOs) — through the Central Power Purchasing Agency – Guaranteed (CPPA-G) — proposed a Rs53.393 billion relief plan. If accepted, it would translate to a Rs1.80 per unit reduction in electricity bills for the next three months.

The hearing was chaired by NEPRA Chairman Waseem Mukhtar, and attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy, CPPA-G, members of the business sector, media personnel, and members of the public.

NEPRA assured that all stakeholders were given a fair platform to share their insights and concerns. A final decision is expected after NEPRA completes its data review.

If implemented, the relief would be applicable across all DISCOs and K-Electric consumers, except for lifeline users, prepaid customers, and EV charging stations.

With rising inflation and energy costs weighing heavily on households and businesses alike, this proposed adjustment is seen as a timely measure to ease some of that burden.
