PFUJ condemns attack on President NPC Anwar Raza

Islamabad (Faisal Azfar Alvi) Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned hooliganism at the National Press Club and attack on newly elected president of NPC Anwar Raza by activists of Azad Panel and non-members who were reportedly acting on the behest of Ministery of Information and Broadcasting’s officials.
In a statement issued on Thursday PFUJ President Shehzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi said the newly elected office bearers of the club won the elections with huge a margin and the opponent group by following democratic norms and traditions must accept the results as the margin of victory is unmatched. PFUJ leadership said that some senior officials of the Ministery of Information and Broadcasting are engaged in politics of journalists and some unpopular small groups of so-called journalists are being funded by them just to create differences among the media community, but their all efforts will fail as the entire community is united for freedom of press and media workers’ rights.

“We will not allow them to succeed in shutting down NPC or divide the journalists fraternity at a time when it is not only fighting for freedom of press but for the future of democratic forces as well.”They warned the informantion ministry against interfering in the matters of journalists, vowing to counter the nefarious designs of the government officials that are aimed at driving a wedge between media persons.
