PCB pushes back on Sana Mir’s scheduling criticism, says domestic season well-planned

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed former women’s team captain Sana Mir’s concerns about the timing of the national women’s domestic one-day tournament, calling her social media posts “hasty” and “factually inaccurate.”

Mir had argued that scheduling the domestic 50-over tournament after the Women’s World Cup made little sense, given the limited ODI build-up for the national side. She urged officials to prioritize efficient planning over empty praise.

However, the PCB insists Mir misunderstood the schedule. A senior official from the Women’s Wing clarified that the National Women’s One-Day Tournament is set for November 10–23, 2025, after the World Cup concludes in India and Sri Lanka.

“The tournament is the start of the new domestic cycle,” the official explained. “The current season will conclude with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.”

PCB outlines preparation plan

The board emphasized that player welfare is central to its approach, detailing a packed programme from July to November that includes:

  • Two high-performance training camps

  • An away T20I series

  • A home ODI series

  • And the World Cup itself

To further prepare, the women’s team is already engaged in a 25-day skills and fitness camp, featuring 50-over practice matches to sharpen their form before the World Cup.

The PCB also reminded critics of the team’s recent successes—remaining unbeaten in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in April and participating in the National Women’s T20 Tournament in May.

Sana Mir responds

After the PCB’s clarification, Mir once again posted on X (formerly Twitter) to clarify her earlier stance, indicating the discussion over women’s cricket scheduling is far from over.

With the World Cup just months away, the PCB says it remains focused on giving the women’s team maximum preparation and exposure to compete at the highest level.
