Pakistan to witness total lunar eclipse and rare blood moon tonight

Pakistan will experience a rare celestial spectacle tonight as a total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon, becomes visible across the country.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the eclipse will begin at 8:30 pm on September 7 and reach its peak at 1:55 am, when the Earth’s shadow will completely cover the moon, creating a deep red hue. The event will continue into the early hours of the morning.

The lunar eclipse will also be visible in parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. However, most regions in Pakistan are expected to have a clear view if weather conditions remain favorable.

SUPARCO explained that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow over the lunar surface. Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to watch with the naked eye, though telescopes and binoculars can enhance the experience.

Astronomy clubs, universities, and science groups across the country are expected to organize public viewing sessions. SUPARCO will also share live updates and images of the eclipse on its official social media platforms.
