Pakistan has hit back at India at the UNSC, dismissing allegations of cross-border terrorism and accusing New Delhi of sponsoring terrorism and violating international law.
Speaking at a UNSC debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes,” Ambassador Usman Jadoon said, “It is India that actively sponsors, aids, and abets terrorism in my country and beyond.”
Jadoon criticized India for targeting Pakistan during a session meant to reaffirm the UN Charter’s principles, noting that India itself violated Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. “While claiming commitment to peace, India denies Kashmiris their inalienable right to self-determination,” he said.
He further condemned India’s widespread human rights abuses in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and its discriminatory policies against minorities. The envoy also accused India of unilaterally suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, aiming to deprive Pakistan of water, and highlighted recent Indian aggression in May that led to civilian casualties.
“In self-defense, Pakistan targeted only military sites, downing six Indian aircraft, while de-escalation was facilitated by the United States,” Jadoon added.
The envoy called it ironic that India, the very country that internationalized the Kashmir dispute at the UNSC decades ago, now refuses to honor the resolutions it once accepted.
The UNSC debate will continue on July 24, with more high-level representatives expected to speak.
