Pakistan condemns torture in occupied territories, urges global action on human rights violations
Marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Pakistan issued a strong message of solidarity with those who continue to endure abuse, particularly in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The statement emphasized Pakistan’s deep concern over the persistent use of torture as a tool of oppression in occupied territories.
The Foreign Office declared that torture, in any form, violates fundamental human rights and runs contrary to both international norms and the values enshrined in Islam. “Islam champions the dignity and sanctity of all human beings,” the statement read, underscoring that acts of torture and degrading treatment are incompatible with Islamic values of justice and compassion.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating torture globally and at home, noting ongoing legal reforms and the reinforcement of institutional mechanisms to enhance transparency, oversight, and protection against such abuse.
Efforts are also underway to ensure that victims receive the care and support they need—including legal aid, medical treatment, and psychological counseling. The statement reiterated Pakistan’s position that protecting victims and restoring their dignity is a moral and legal imperative.
With particular emphasis, Pakistan condemned the brutality faced by the people of Palestine and Kashmir, where occupying forces continue to use violence and fear to undermine their rights and aspirations. These tactics, the government warned, are aimed at silencing calls for self-determination and perpetuating illegal occupation.
The statement concluded with a call to the international community to break its silence, uphold international law, and hold perpetrators accountable. Pakistan urged collective action to end these violations and stand by the victims in their pursuit of justice and freedom.
