ISLAMABAD: Kazakhstan is set to officially announce its participation in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, according to the Kazakh Ambassador to Pakistan. The development signals a major step toward regional energy cooperation and economic connectivity.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting between the Kazakh Ambassador and Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Hussain Magsi, held in Islamabad on Tuesday. The two sides discussed a wide range of issues aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of education, scientific research, and technological advancement.
Minister Magsi revealed that Pakistan and Kazakhstan are in the final stages of signing several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the education sector. He highlighted the importance of increased collaboration to promote mutual growth and innovation.
The Kazakh Ambassador expressed keen interest in establishing a joint research center at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, as a concrete step toward building lasting academic and technological partnerships.
Both sides also agreed on the need to enhance the business climate, combat smuggling through coordinated efforts, and expand cooperation in key sectors including science, technology, and education.
The potential entry of Kazakhstan into the TAPI project is expected to bring new momentum to the long-awaited pipeline, which aims to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India, fostering regional stability and development.
