It is probable that Babar Azam will reassume the role of Pakistan’s captain

Reports suggest that Babar Azam, the cricket star from Pakistan, is on the verge of regaining the captaincy of the national team. Sources indicate that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is making arrangements to reinstate Babar Azam as the captain following the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as the new chairman of the PCB.

They reported that Mohsin Naqvi, who previously served as the interim Chief Minister of Punjab, assumed the chairmanship of the PCB uncontested in the recent elections.

Under Naqvi’s guidance, substantial transformations are expected within Pakistan cricket.

The decision emerged after discussions at the National Cricket Academy, with Mohsin Naqvi now taking on the prestigious role as the 37th chairman of the PCB.

Meanwhile, the potential reinstatement of Babar Azam as captain follows his resignation across all formats last year, following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. The team’s fifth-place finish and failure to progress to the semi-finals prompted Azam to step down from his leadership position.

Following Azam’s departure, the PCB appointed Shahid Afridi as the T20 captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain. However, both captains encountered significant challenges during their inaugural series.

Their recent performances under their leadership include a 4-1 defeat in a T20I series against New Zealand and a 3-0 loss in a Test series against Australia, indicating a turbulent period for Pakistan cricket.
