Election schedule issued by ECP following Supreme Court directive.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend a Lahore High Court order that halted the appointment of Returning Officers (ROs) from the executive branch, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finally unveiled the long-awaited election schedule on Friday night. This schedule confirms the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, scheduled to be held on February 8 next year.

Subsequently, the ECP will recommence the training of Returning Officers (ROs) and District Returning Officers (DROs).

The election plan encompasses the allocation of reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in both the National Assembly (NA) and the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
The election timetable was issued late at night following the orders of the SC.

Previously, the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended the notification regarding the assignment of DROs and ROs from the civil service, pausing their training.

The LHC delivered its ruling after considering a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
