CPNE Announces Formation of Media Safety and Security Committee

Karachi – The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has announced the formation of its Media Safety and Security Committee for the year 2024-25.

According to the details, Ikram Sehgal has been appointed as the Chairman of the committee. The other members include Aamer Mahmood, Tazeen Akhtar, Zulfiqar Ahmed Rahat, Raza Rahman, and Adnan Zafar, as well as CPNE President Irshad Arif and General Secretary Ijaz-ul-Haq, by virtue of their positions.

The Media Safety and Security Committee aims to address and resolve security and safety issues faced by media groups and their employees, providing peace of mind for both. The committee’s objectives include:

  • Assessing and analyzing security threats faced by media houses and implementing appropriate safety measures.
  • Providing security training to media employees for their protection.
  • Evaluating potential risks and training media group employees accordingly.
  • Establishing a Defense and Security Task Force in each city through reputable security companies to handle emergency situations for media.
  • Providing a special help line number for media employees to request assistance during emergencies.
  • Monitoring the activities of specific media groups upon request to the proposed control room, and tracking the movements of media workers in challenging areas.
  • Regularly analyzing potential risks to the media and taking appropriate actions based on the situation.
  • Educating and training media employees on post-emergency procedures.
  • Arranging comprehensive medical insurance coverage for hospital medical aid.

The committee will play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and security framework for media professionals across Pakistan.
