CDA to launch Rs. 2.7 billion T Chowk flyover and Shaheen Chowk underpass projects next month
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to begin work on two long-awaited road projects in Islamabad next month, aiming to address persistent traffic bottlenecks in the capital.
The announcement was made after a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the CDA headquarters. According to officials, the groundbreaking for the projects will be held in early September.
The T Chowk Flyover, valued at Rs. 1.4 billion, will be constructed at the intersection of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway, a busy route for thousands of vehicles entering and leaving the city daily. The project is expected to ease the heavy traffic burden, particularly during peak hours.
Similarly, the Shaheen Chowk Underpass, estimated at Rs. 1.3 billion, will be developed at Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal/Margalla Road, one of the busiest traffic points due to surrounding government complexes and academic institutions.
As per the CDA’s design, traffic on Khayaban-i-Iqbal will move underground, while the underpass slab will connect Ninth Avenue with the adjacent service road, ensuring smoother flow for commuters.
Both projects, worth a combined Rs. 2.7 billion, mark a significant push toward improving Islamabad’s road network and addressing long-standing congestion issues faced by daily travelers.
