Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three officials of the state news agency, APP, following the cancellation of their interim bail in a corruption case involving irregular payments to IT companies and a loss of millions of rupees. The accused are alleged to have caused a loss of PKR 124 million to the national treasury.
Managing Director of APP, Asim Khichi, after conducting an initial inquiry into the irregular contracts and payments made to IT companies Artech, Tijaria, Comtel, and New Horizon, forwarded the matter to the FIA. On Khichi’s complaint, a case was registered on February 29.
The FIA arrested three APP officials: Director IT Muhammad Ghaus, Deputy Director IT Masawar Imran, and Chief Computer Engineer Saad Mudassar. They were taken into custody after their bail applications were rejected by the Islamabad High Court. The officials are accused of making irregular payments to the four IT companies in 2022, resulting in a loss of PKR 124.9 million.
