Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker awarded honorary PhD for promoting Ethiopia–Pakistan friendship

H.E. Kamran Khan Tessori, Governor of Sindh, conferred an Honorary PhD degree and Gold Medal upon H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening Ethiopia–Pakistan diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations.

The honor was presented at a special convocation ceremony organized by the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), held at the Governor House, Sindh. The event was attended by government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, business leaders, civil society members, and media representatives.

Addressing the ceremony, Governor Tessori praised Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula for his visionary leadership and sustained efforts in enhancing bilateral relations between the two brotherly nations. He particularly highlighted the Ambassador’s instrumental role in launching Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Pakistan, a milestone that has greatly advanced Pakistan’s Look Africa and Engage Africa initiatives.

Expressing his gratitude, Ambassador Dr. Jemal thanked the Governor and the people of Pakistan for their warmth and recognition. He referred to Governor Tessori as a “Friend of Ethiopia,” acknowledging his personal support in establishing the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, facilitating official and business exchanges, and enabling the start of direct air connectivity through Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi.

Following the ceremony, both sides held a meeting to discuss expanding cooperation in multiple areas, including trade, investment, aviation, environment, education, health, culture, and tourism. They reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen Ethiopia–Pakistan relations through sustained collaboration and mutual growth.
