RAWALPINDI – Aleema Khan has raised alarm over the treatment of her brother, PTI founder Imran Khan, claiming his life is in danger and vowing to move the Supreme Court for justice.
Speaking to reporters after attending proceedings at the Anti-Terrorism Court, Aleema described Imran Khan’s incarceration as “unlawful” and said he was being held under harsh conditions. “He has been placed in solitary confinement, cut off from newspapers and television, and stripped of his basic rights,” she alleged. “The jail superintendent is not telling the truth. My brother has never lied.”
She further claimed that Bushra Bibi was being targeted as part of a political strategy to break Imran Khan’s resolve. “This is a deliberate effort to pressure him. Maryam Nawaz has sent this superintendent to inflict injustice on the PTI founder,” she said, directly blaming the Punjab chief minister.
Aleema conveyed her brother’s message from prison, saying he was willing to hold dialogue but only “for the sake of the country, not for any personal deal.” He also urged PTI members to unite, put aside internal disputes, and build a movement for justice.
“The PTI founder is in a difficult situation, and the party must raise its voice,” she stressed. She also appealed to the public: “We are all victims of rising inflation. People must now rise themselves against this system of oppression.”
Imran Khan has remained behind bars since August 2023, facing a series of legal cases following his removal from office in April 2022 through a parliamentary no-confidence motion.
After meeting Khan in prison a day earlier, Aleema said he complained of human rights violations and isolation. “He has told parliamentarians to decide their political future and make their stance clear,” she added.
