The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in skill development aimed at building a skilled workforce to drive sustainable growth and socio-economic development in both countries.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Jemal briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s ongoing homegrown economic reforms, designed to strengthen macroeconomic stability, boost private sector participation, enhance domestic production, and improve public service delivery.
He highlighted that Ethiopia is prioritizing modern skill development among its youth, focusing on key areas such as coding, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and computing to increase productivity and innovation. The Ambassador proposed launching joint initiatives between Ethiopia and Pakistan to enhance youth employability and foster collaboration in technical and vocational training.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal also underscored the vital role of the Ethiopian diaspora in national development, noting that the Government of Ethiopia’s “Back to Origins” initiative encourages second-generation Ethiopians to reconnect with their roots while contributing to the nation’s progress in education, innovation, and enterprise.
Federal Minister Salik Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Ethiopia in the field of human capital and skills development, emphasizing that such initiatives are essential for shared economic prosperity.
He praised the visionary leadership of Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, acknowledging Ethiopia’s rapid transformation and socio-economic progress. The Minister also commended Ambassador Dr. Jemal for his dedicated efforts in strengthening Ethio-Pakistan relations and building new avenues of collaboration between the two nations.
