Sindh CM warns of ‘super flood’ as NDMA forecasts 1.1 million cusecs flow

Kashmore — Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has sounded an urgent warning of a “super flood”, after the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) projected water flows reaching 1.1 million cusecs.

Speaking to media in Kashmore, Shah stressed that immediate steps are needed to safeguard human lives, livestock, and critical infrastructure. He cautioned that if the flow rises to 900,000–1,000,000 cusecs, vast low-lying ‘kachcha’ areas could be completely submerged.

Emergency measures underway

The CM said all district administrations have been alerted and instructed to coordinate with NDMA. The Pakistan Army has been placed on standby for rescue operations, while 192 NDMA boats are ready to aid evacuations.

Shah underlined that saving lives, protecting livestock, and securing barrages and embankments must remain the highest priority. “If we succeed in preserving lives and infrastructure, we can overcome this disaster,” he remarked.

Relief and rehabilitation plans

The chief minister expressed hope that water levels would start receding within 48 hours, after which rehabilitation and resettlement would begin. He assured that families in kachcha areas who lose their homes would be provided housing under the direction of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

On the agricultural front, Shah pledged that the Sindh government will compensate farmers for flood-related crop damages. He appealed to citizens to remain patient and resilient, adding: “The government stands with you in this crisis.”
