Lahore – In a big step toward improving city infrastructure, the Punjab government has earmarked Rs. 20 billion for new road construction and upgrades across Lahore. The funding is part of the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) structure plan aimed at tackling congestion and catering to the city’s rapid urban growth.
According to details, the LDA will secure Rs. 10 billion as a loan from the provincial government to finance the projects. Officials confirmed that the new roadworks will be spread across key areas of the city, helping reduce travel time and boost overall connectivity.
The announcement came during a meeting chaired by LDA Vice Chairman Mian Marghub Ahmed, with Wasa Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmed and LDA DG Tahir Farooq in attendance. The meeting also touched upon the city’s budget approval, revisions to zoning laws, and improvements in penalty and land use policies.
Committee members stressed the need to revive road maintenance and repair services under the LDA’s control to ensure sustainable infrastructure management.
With this massive investment, the Punjab government and LDA are aiming not only to upgrade Lahore’s road network but also to ensure smoother, safer, and more reliable commuting for millions of people who rely on the city’s roads daily.
