Rs. 2.87 billion relief package approved for Pakistan Steel Mills workers

Islamabad – Bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of families, the federal government has approved the release of Rs. 2.87 billion to clear dues of Pakistan Steel Mills employees.

Sources confirmed that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) gave the green light following recommendations from the Ministry of Industries and Production. The funds, provided as a 20-year loan, will be repaid by the Steel Mills along with interest.

For many workers, this payout comes after months of financial struggle and growing uncertainty over their future. Employees say the move will help them meet pressing household needs, especially with rising inflation.

Industry observers note that while the government’s step addresses immediate concerns, it also underscores the urgent need for reforms to revive Pakistan Steel Mills and ensure long-term stability. Workers have called on the government to accompany financial support with concrete revival plans for the once-thriving industrial giant.
