DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has rejected reports suggesting that the Army Chief gave an interview or spoke about an apology during a Brussels event. He said the claims were fabricated by a journalist for personal publicity.
Addressing media in Islamabad, the Army spokesperson explained that Suhail Warraich’s article distorted the facts. “The Brussels event was attended by hundreds, and many people took photos. Neither PTI nor an apology was discussed. No interview was given,” he said.
He underlined that those involved in the May 9 violence must face accountability. “Such irresponsible behavior, especially from senior journalists, is regrettable,” he noted.
Responding to a question about possible legal action against the media organization, the DG ISPR said the media must act responsibly. “Institutions must act with wisdom, and the media should avoid such conduct,” he stressed.
DG ISPR highlighted that Pakistan’s strategic importance makes it a target of constant aggression. “India believed it could undermine the Pakistan Army through terrorist proxies and military pressure, but Pakistan’s firm response turned the tables,” he said.
He recalled that Pakistan simultaneously confronted external threats and internal proxies, showcasing its resilience. However, he pointed out that the full enforcement of the 2014 National Action Plan against terrorism is still pending.
“The removal of illegal Afghan residents involved in crimes is necessary, yet certain political and criminal groups oppose it. For lasting peace, all 14 points of the National Action Plan must be fully executed,” he emphasized.
Concluding his remarks, DG ISPR said Pakistan’s youth remain its greatest asset, while security forces continue to fill governance gaps through their sacrifices.
