ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has moved forward with its Rs. 1.4 billion T-Chowk Flyover project, opening bids for construction at the busy GT Road–Islamabad Expressway intersection.
Habib Construction Services (HCS), already known for high-profile projects like Jinnah Square (Serena Interchange and Murree Road underpass), is poised to win the contract in partnership with ZKB. The joint venture submitted a bid 2% lower than the official estimate, while the only other bidder offered a proposal more than 11% higher.
According to CDA officials, the bid will be reviewed for approval before work orders are issued.
The project involves building a 570-meter-long flyover, designed to give direct access to traffic from Lahore entering the Islamabad Expressway. A dedicated slip road will also be constructed to ease traffic heading back towards Lahore.
While the PC-1 allows five months for completion, CDA officials believe the project could be finalized in just three months with fast-tracked work.
Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza stressed the importance of the project, noting that over 100,000 motorists use the intersection daily. “On the Interior Minister’s directives, this project will be prioritized just like the other two recently completed schemes,” he said.
In addition, the CDA is preparing to open financial bids next week for another Rs. 1.3 billion project: the Shaheen Chowk underpass. Designed to reduce congestion at Ninth Avenue and Khayaban-i-Iqbal, the underpass will allow through traffic to flow below ground while connecting Ninth Avenue with service roads on the surface.
CDA is also planning the long-awaited extension of Margalla Road from GT Road to Motorway I.
